Harbor Foundation, Inc. operates as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals in hospice care and their families by addressing essential and extraordinary needs not covered by typical healthcare services. The foundation is committed to assisting bereaved family members, providing education about hospice, and undertaking other charitable endeavors as approved by its Board of Directors.
These expenses are those that the persons/families cannot afford themselves. Funds will not be allocated for patients’ needs, which the hospice should meet under the reimbursement system of Medicare, Medicaid, or any third-party payor. Hospice agency representatives must request hardship grants on behalf of and with permission of the patient and family; please see a link to the application.

High School Senior Scholarship. This scholarship, awarded to graduating high school seniors, provides financial support through a one-time $1,000 award. A college education presents a significant financial hurdle for many American families, but it becomes even more daunting when a student loses a parent. Acknowledging the resilience and determination demonstrated by countless young individuals in such trying circumstances, the Harbor Foundation offers a Scholarship Program for high school seniors preparing for college, university, or trade school in the US. Eligible candidates who share how the loss of a parent has influenced their lives can enter to be selected as a scholarship recipient. Applications open on February 1st and close on March 1st at 11:59PM CST.

Additionally, the foundation supports the advancement of hospice and palliative care by offering scholarships for college nursing students. Transitioning from nursing school to a career in hospice care is a significant milestone for many students. However, the financial burden of higher education can be incredibly challenging. Recognizing the dedication and resilience of aspiring hospice nurses, the Harbor Foundation is proud to offer a Scholarship Program specifically designed to support nursing students entering this field. Eligible candidates are invited to share how their passion for hospice care has shaped their journey and aspirations. Through this scholarship opportunity, we want to empower these dedicated individuals to continue their education and pursue their calling to provide comfort and support to patients and families in their final stages of life. Applications open on March 1st and close on April 1st at 11:59PM CST.
